The Chamberlain Whisper Drive WD962KEV is a 3/4 HP* belt drive DC garage door opener with battery backup. The WD962KEV is the newest, most powerful model in Chamberlains DIY line.
Part of the Chamberlain Whisper Drive® family, the WD962KEV replaces the WD962KD. This new model is a very quiet garage door openerand is a good choice if you have living space above or next to the garage.
What’s new on the Chamberlain WD962KEV?
When Chamberlain updated their WD962KD, they delivered the same solid 3/4 HP belt drive garage door opener, and added Chamberlain’s latest technology. Two new and notable features are MyQ™ Technology, which has 3 primary benefits, and Security+ 2.0.
MyQ™ Features
In a nutshell, Chamberlain MyQ™ is a basic home automation system integrated with the garage door opener system. Primary features are:
- Garage Door Monitoring – Allowing you to monitor and close the door from within your house.
- Remote lamp control or light switch – Allowing you to turn on a lamp while still in the car.
- Timer-to-Close – A timed automatic garage door closing feature.
Aside from the timer-to-close feature and garage door monitoring, Chamberlain MyQ™ offers home automation fuctions similar to those offered by Lear Car2U® that comes built in to some newer cars.
Security+ 2.0™ Features
The latest generation of garage door remotes includes rolling code security to change the remote code after each use, plus added benefits.Transmission range has been extended and auto-seeking dual frequency transmission codes are now being used to significantly reduce the likelihood of inteference.
Most of the other WD962KEV features are similar to its predecessor, including constant monitoring and door sensing technology, thanks to DC power.

Powerful, Quiet Operation – This new, top-rated Chamberlain DC garage door opener carries the Whisper Drive® name because its powerful, 3/4 HPS* belt-driven system is still one of the quietest garage door openers on the market. The primary source of noise comes from garage door movement, not the opener itself.

Battery Backup – If the power goes out, you can still operate the WD962KEV up to 20 times in a 24 hour period. When the power comes back on, the battery automatically recharges.
If you don’t need battery backup or a 3/4 HP model, consider the Chamberlain Whisper Drive WD822KD. This 1/2 HP belt drive garage door opener is one of Chamberlain’s most popular models and is still one of the best garage door openers on the market.

Multi-Function Motion Detecting Control Panel – The latest Chamberlain multi-function control panel includes motion detection to automatically turn on the lights when you enter the garage. This control panel also includes the opening and closing button (of course), a separate light control button and Timer-to-Close controls.
The Timer-to-Close feature has 4 buttons. Three of the buttons allow you to set delayed closing times of 1, 5 or 10 minutes. The fourth button is the “Hold Open” button to keep the garage door from automatically closing.
